We are very excited to announce that Foundation Segré is one of our new partners. They will be supporting us for a 3-year project, which we start in May 2019!
The support from Fondation Segré will complement our on-going efforts in anti-poaching forest patrols and wildlife monitoring across the protected area, especially in designated ‘Biodiversity Priority Zones’.
The project has one main goal which is:
To prevent illegal poaching on wildlife populations in Nakai-Nam Theun National Protected Area, at least in designated Biodiversity Priority Zones to ensure wildlife populations to thrive
With the following specific objectives:
- Reduce or remove any instance of illegal poaching (including logging, and hunting) with community anti-poaching patrols and supporting teams
- Ensure stable or increasing wildlife populations, especially for key threatened species listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species
- Assess the impact of anti-poaching patrols on biodiversity abundance to strengthen and/or adapt our strategy if necessary
- Monitor wildlife populations (including rare and threatened species) trends and distribution over time, and conduct surveys on species for which current occurrence is uncertain
- Collect data on several species to investigate certain aspects of their ecology (distribution, habitat requirements, activity etc.)
This project is implemented in collaboration with our local partners: Wildlife Conservation Association and Nam Theun 2 Watershed Management and Protection Authority.
We are immensely grateful to Fondation Segré for their trust and for being one of our new partners.
